Nostr Atlanta #6 – White Noise: Private Messages on Nostr Done Right?
On Monday, August 18th, the Nostr Atlanta Meetup at ATL BitLab will host local member admason4649, who will present on White Noise, a new project aiming to bring stronger privacy to Nostr direct messages (DMs).
Launched last month, White Noise is a privacy-centric messaging app built on Nostr’s decentralized identity system and secured with MLS encryption. It is designed to anonymize both direct messages and encrypted group chats.
As Max Hillebrand, founder of Sound Money Solutions and the mind behind White Noise, explained in a recent interview:
“Our main goal is to solve the current security and privacy problems related to private messages on Nostr.”
Hillebrand noted that while platforms like Signal proved the need for secure messaging, they also highlighted limitations.
“Signal has excellent encryption in traditional contexts, but the protocol is not scalable with large group chats.”
White Noise addresses this challenge by combining Nostr’s decentralized identity with Messaging Layer Security (MLS), a protocol designed for efficient end-to-end encryption that scales to large groups.

Screening of ‘Dirty Coin’ in San Antonio
On Friday, August 22nd, the San Antonio Bitcoin Club invites the community for a special screening of DIRTY COIN — a bold new documentary that turns the mainstream narrative on its head. Far from being a problem, the film argues, Bitcoin mining can stabilize power grids, foster energy abundance, and even transform global energy markets.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Alana Mediavilla, offering attendees the chance to dive deeper into the story and its implications.
