Bitcoin Sydney hosts an adhoc Saturday session for anyone who can’t make it to our Surry Hills Wednesday event, or for anyone who’d prefer a slower, informal conversation about the Coldcard entropy bug and what it could mean for how you hold your Bitcoin.
The recently disclosed firmware bug in a popular hardware wallet/signing device has drained a significant amount of Bitcoin from thousands of unique addresses. This is not a presentation, but a social meetup for anyone who is curious about the bug or who has been affected by it.
WHAT WE’LL TALK ABOUT:
• What the Coldcard entropy vulnerability actually is, in plain English
• How to work out whether you’re affected, and what to do if you are
• Verifiable seed generation: dice rolls, entropy you can audit yourself
• Custody considerations: single-sig vs multisig, single-vendor risk, passphrases
• Migration hygiene: moving funds without creating new risks in the process
Bring your questions. Experienced Bitcoiners will be on hand.
A REMINDER: No one at this meetup will ever ask you for your seed phrase. Never type, show or read out your seed words to anyone.
ALSO ON THIS MONTH:
The BIG AUGUST MEETUP, ‘Is Self-Custody Dead?’, is on Wed Aug 12 at Molly Malone’s in Surry Hills, where cryptographer Lloyd Fournier and Alex Hanley review the vulnerability in depth, followed by an expert panel. Saturday is the informal warm-up. Come to both.
