Chicago BitDevs presents Base58’s World Famous Bitcoin LARP—a fun, immersive, and hands-on 2-hour workshop where participants role-play the Bitcoin network to learn how it all works, from mempools to mining.
Ever wondered what a Bitcoin node really does? How transactions move across the network? What it takes for a block to get mined?
Whether you’re brand new to Bitcoin or have years of experience, the Bitcoin LARP is designed for all ages and skill levels. It’s a lively and educational way to grasp complex Bitcoin concepts by becoming part of the network yourself.
Created by Blockstream hacker + Base58 founder niftynei in 2021, the LARP has been played at countless meetups and conferences across the globe, and has even found it’s way into Base58 classes.
Why a Bitcoin LARP?
Bitcoin is a complex system with many moving parts. It works on a computer network that’s hard to touch and see in action. The Bitcoin Live-Action-Role-Play is an opportunity to get to touch and transact with bitcoin in a manual, human powered way. We make the bitcoin protocol into a tangible, fun group-building activity.
With this game, you can see how transactions get made, how they get to miners, what work a bitcoin node does and how it helps secure the network. You’ll get a front-line view of how miners create blocks and transactions get spent, how difficulty readjustments impact block production, and what re-orgs and network splits look like.
It’s also a great team building exercise, as you compete against other nodes to build the next wining block.
