López founded the Voluntad Popular party and served as mayor of Chacao in Caracas. In 2014, he was imprisoned for leading peaceful protests against the Maduro regime, before seeking asylum at the Spanish embassy. Leopoldo has been a vocal advocate for the role open-source technology plays in helping Venezuelans resist authoritarian control.
Now a founding member of the World Liberty Congress, he continues to champion democratic values—many of which align with the principles behind Bitcoin.
