Join us again for Bitcoin Wednesday #140 on February 5th. We’ll meet at the back of the Stadschouwburg’s Brasserie on the Leidseplein.
Front page of the Financial Times for 29 January 2025:
Czech Central bank Head Wants It to Buy Billions of Euros in Bitcoin
What about you?
The Czech announcement shares the front page with Gold Stockpiling in New York Leads to London Shortage.
But the real story is the accelerating pace of national Bitcoin adoption.
The U.S. treasury now holds $20.4 billion worth, with China close behind at $19.1 billion. The UK ($6 billion), Ukraine ($4.5 billion), and Bhutan (a stunning 50% of GDP at $1.2 billion) round out the top holders.
Even in the EU, where adoption has been slower, Finland leads with $195 million, though this pales compared to El Salvador’s $593 million stack, which grows by at least one Bitcoin per day. Venezuela ($23.7 million) and Georgia ($6.6 million) have also joined the race, while rumors swirl about other nations accumulating quietly through proxies.
If you don’t have even a small amount, what are you waiting for? Please join us on 5 February, and let’s talk about it.
How to find us: See photo! Walk in the door and go straight to the back. We’ll be in the large, round space at the back of the Brasserie. Don’t be shy. All welcome.
Cash bar for this evening.
